Corrective assertion

When you want to correct something someone said, you can reply using sentence with the right information. For example, Núria enters a shop where the shop assistant is an old woman. Núria asks for two pears and two oranges. The woman, after preparing two pears, asks her if she wants two lemons. Núria tells her that it is not the case, and that she wants oranges.

Núria: No! TARONGES!

Now listen to the sentence as many times as you want and pay attention to the graphic. Watch (and listen) how the voice rises sharply in the last stressed syllable of the sequence (-ron-) and then, how it falls in the final syllable of the sequence (-ges).

Train yourself.

Now pronounce a sentence with the same corrective intonation. Imagine that you enter a shop where the shop assistant is an old woman. She doesn’t hear you well when you ask for strawberries and she asks you if you want lemons. You answer: “No! Maduixes!”.

Imagine that someone asks you if you are from Russia. You have to answer: “No! D’Eslovènia!”
Now, imagine that the waiter doesn’t understand you well and asks if you want a coffee with milk. You answer: “No! Un tallat!”
