Articulation

Reveal the word

This sound may be uttered during some everyday tasks, as for instance the sound produced when we unsuccessfully try to find a word in the middle of the sentence we are saying at that moment: “That matter became….. [ə, ə, ə, ə] essential in those circumstances.”

Now, you have to follow with the tip of the tongue a line that we start directly behind the incisors of the upper jaw till the hard palate, and you will note that when the alveolus end, an arched area begins till you reach the palatal dome. Pass with your tongue some times over this zone and then imitate the sound that we produce by looking for words that don’t come to your mind, blowing out the air in direction of the pre-palatal area that we have sensitized. If you are attentive, you will see that the air resounds exactly there where you have been insisting with the tongue.

Now repeat this sound in the following words: the (masculine article), pel ‘for the’, del ‘of the’, la ‘the (feminine article)’, al ‘on the’ (and keep in mind that regardless of the fact if the word is written with an “a” or with an “e”, the [ə] sounds the same way).
